Madewell

Promo Design

Between 2018 and 2022, I was responsible for designing all promotional messaging to come out of Madewell. Because a different promo ran every week, I wanted to make every promotion different from one another and evoke excitement in order to boost sales. From these promotions, the average return was about $1.5 million daily. All promotional creative spanned emails, website, app, social, and paid ads. This is a sampling of my favorite promo designs and that were the most successful from a business perspective.

$75 Denim

Madewell’s hero product is their denim assortment. Therefore, when designing this promo, I really wanted denim to be the focus and use neutral blacks and whites, and simplified type usage to attract the consumer to the enticing offer.

Extra 30% Off Sale

Madewell often ran promotions on a curated selection of products. The design for this promo repurposed Madewell’s standard font, P22 Underground, to speak generally to a mix/match of products on promotion. Moreover, because select styles were on sale, I could only use product imagery on model instead of more exciting editorial imagery that often used a wide mix of products that were and not included int he sale. Moreover, the promo typeface I designed goal was to draw excitement around product that may or may not be the most exciting.

Secret stock Sale

Even a year after the pandemic, Madewell had a surplus of inventory they needed to get off their hands. Unlike other “selects” promotions that have select product on sale, the team wanted to brand it a semi-annual “secret stock sale.” Therefore I wanted to great a visual identity for this particular promotion that was fun, could last several seasons, and speak to a wide assortment of product.
